Against Fanboy Clergy
Let's tread carefully here:
A wide range of pop sci-fi, fantasy, and other pulp literature is light entertainment. They can be things indifferent. It is your Christian liberty whether to read them, of course, using the wisdom given to you in Word and Sacrament. (Much is sinful and to be avoided, but you knew that. Pop culture should always be treated with suspicion.)
That said, I don't want a nerd pastor. Ministers are an officer corps in a war against spiritual wickedness in high places. They represent Christ and proclaim His Word. They need to be leaders. That includes putting away childish things, analogous to 1 Cor. 13:11.
Think of it like alcohol. A bottle of wine at the dinner table is fine. Yet you don't want people to think of you as a drinker.
