Virtual tour of the Sydney opera house at Bennelong Point, Sydney, Australia. The Sydney opera house performing arts centre was designed by Danish architect Jørn Utzon. In 1955, an international design competition was launched to build the planned opera house. His now famous design won in 1957 from a field of over 200 architectural design entries. Construction started in 1959 and was finally completed in 1973. The architecture was designed in a modern expressionist style; the construction method was primarily precast concrete covering an area of approximately 2 hectares; the height is 67 metres and the main concert hall seats over 2600 people. The building also includes smaller theatres, recording and performance rooms. The Sydney Opera House became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2007.
