All Baptisms Are Immersion Baptisms (Just Not How You Think)
Every Christian Baptism—water + Triune name—is immersion. The word does not describe the depth of water as much as the depth of effect caused. βαπτίζω isn’t simply a dunk in Greek terms. It’s a saturation.
Mark 10:38 – “Baptism of suffering.” As in: overwhelmed, engulfed.
Greek writers back it up:
• Plutarch (1st/2nd c. Biographer) – writes about a soul “baptized” in anxiety, drenched in dread.
• Polybius (2nd c. Historian) - describes ships “baptized” in storms, detailing the total destruction.
• Nicander (2nd c. Poet) – A recipie: Cucumbers dipped (βάπτω), then baptized (βαπτίζω) in vinegar. The result? Pickle. Forever.
When Paul says we’re baptized into Christ (Rom 6:3, Gal 3:27), he means we’re altered. Permanently. You can't unbaptise a Christian.
So when someone demands that baptism is “immersion,” just say:
“IN EVERY BAPTISM we are PICKLED INTO CHRIST by the HOLY SPIRIT!" 🥒✝️
