This painting is about the Saxon Massacre of Danes all over England in 1002. Many Danes had families that lived in England over the long period of Danish Rule in England, which had angered many Danes including the King over the death of one of his siblings. Sweyn took this opportunity to conquer England, both out of revenge for the death of Danes and to complete what the Danes couldn't do since the Great Heathen Army... taking all of England under Danish Rule.
