What makes people the best at what they do?
I remember interviewing Michael Jordan. And I asked, “What makes you the best in the world? Skill, talent, opportunity, experience, training?” And he was so cool. He says to me: “Mr. Tony, I can tell you the truth without it sounding like exaggeration or false modesty.”
He said: “I didn’t even play on the school basketball team. I was kicked out in 10th grade.”
Then he said: “What is this? That every day I demand more from myself than anyone can expect! I don't compete with other people, I compete with what I can do."
And it was a standard that inspires.
