Pregnancy testing can be dated back to an ancient Egyptian papyrus from 1350 BCE. Their medical professionals asked potentially pregnant women to urinate on bags of wheat and barley, claiming that germination of the grain indicated pregnancy: wheat for a boy and barley for a girl.
