Teotihuacan was an ancient Mesoamerican city which is located in central Mexico near present day Mexico City. The name Teotihuacan means ‘The City of the Gods’. Famous for it’s Temple of the Feathered Serpent and ritual human sacrifices, the city of Teotihuacan began to flourish around 200 BC however much of it’s earlier history is not known. The largest stone pyramid in Teotihuacan, the Pyramid of the Sun, was built around 200 AD and is 65.5 meters (216 ft) high. The main structures are connected by a road called the ‘Avenue of the Dead’. Teotihuacan appears to contain features of various cultures, including the Mayan, Mixtec and Zapotec. Teotihuacan collapsed suddenly around 600 AD possibly due to an uprising against the ruling class.
