What is an equinox?
As the word says, it means equus & noctus meaning those days of year when day & night are of equal duration. It happens when the earth's equator passes through sun. It is usually seen on 20th of March & 23rd of September. Whereas a solstice is opposite of an equinox, it occurs when the sun is farthest from earth's elliptical path. Summer solstice seen on June 21st when day is probably the longest & winter solstice on December 22 when it is shortest.
